Law on the Information Transparency and Right to Information

Collection of laws related to media, information transparency and openness were updated

Laws that included articles on the regulation of media, information transparency and openness, freedom and right of expression have rapidly increased from 91 in 2001 to 188 regulations as of 31st of December, 2010.
Case study on civil and criminal defamation heard by the Mongolian courts in 2009 and 2010

Two researches worked on the case study of the civil and defamation cases against media and journalists heard by the Mongolian courts in 2009.  We could not access to the cases heard in 2010 because the materials were not arrived in the Capital City Court Archive, so the researchers reviewed the archival documents of nine Ulaanbaatar district courts and materials of 21 aimag courts.
Joint meeting of the working groups on drafting media related laws was organized

With an initiative of “Globe International” NGO and in the framework of “Media legal advocacy” project funded by the Embassy of Great Britain and North Ireland, a joint meeting of working groups on drafting and presenting media related laws was organized on 4th of March, 2011 in the Conference hall of the Open Society Forum.

Globe International was awarded a grant in the amount of 3850 USD for the project “Integrity star” on September 20, 2010. The project is closely linked to the Asia Foundation’s “Integrity Star” program whose purpose is to increase parliamentary voting transparency especially on laws directly or indirectly related to  anti-corruption, including responsibility mechanisms, justice, and accountability.
Globe International NGO wants MPs to permit journalists to research parliamentary session poll results by name

On September 22, 2010, the NGO Globe International requested Ts.Sharavdorj, head of the parliamentary office of Mongolia, to become au fait with detailed notes of sessions which discussed all laws, resolutions and other legal documents from the year 2008, and to copy some necessary documents. The request was made within the framework of the “Integrity Star” monitoring project.

Globe International is starting two-month project to look at the political will of the MPs to combat corruption through using anti-corruption legislative scorecard as monitoring tool. The proposed project is closely linked to the Asia Foundation’s “Integrity Star” program with purpose to increase parliament transparency on voting, especially on laws directly or indirectly related to the anti-corruption, responsibility mechanism, justice and accountability.
