“GENDER SENSITIVE POLICY AND MEDIA” TRAINING ORGANIZED

On November 29, 2024, The Globe International Center successfully organized a training titled "Gender-Sensitive Policy and Media" with UNESCO's financial support and in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The training opened with video welcome speech by Mr. Shakhbaz Khan, Prof. Shahbaz Khan Director and Representative UNESCO Regional Office for East-Asia.

In the training participated 27 representatives from regulatory and legislative bodies and relevant authorities responsible, civil society, media organizations, and journalists.

The goal of the training is to "enhance understanding and awareness of gender equality, and support each participating organization in developing institutional policies that promote gender equality and improving their policy documents."

In recent years, terms such as gender roles, gender perspectives, gender discrimination, gender equality, gender justice, gender analysis, and prioritizing gender issues have increasingly been incorporated into declarations, action plans, political discourse, programs, and projects related to social development.

The training content covered the "Gender-Sensitive Indicators for Media" developed in 2012 with the support of the International Program for the Development of Communication (IPDC). These indicators were created through years of research in collaboration with UNESCO and IPDC. Given that gender equality and women's empowerment are top priorities for UNESCO, the indicators were designed to assess the media sector in UNESCO member states.

The training was moderated by Mrs. Kh. Naranjargal, Chairperson of the Board of the Globe International Center, and conducted by legal experts Mr. B. Purevsuren and Mr. L. Galbaatar from the Globe International Center. Additionally, Dr. D. Tsend, Head of the Journalism Department at the School of Film, Television, and Media Arts of the Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture (MSUAC), was invited as a guest speaker. Dr. Tsend presented findings from a study on the gender aspects of sources used in certain programs of Mongolian National Broadcaster (MNB).
