Glob International NGO marks its 10th anniversary

A ceremony was held on March 31, 2009 in Bishrelt Hotel to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Glob International NGO that raises a motto ‘Knowledge is power’. Since its establishment the Glob International has attached much attention to an issue of creating legal basis and environment for shaping a humanitarian democratic society in Mongolia. Glob International has drawn up a draft Law on Freedom of Information and made a considerable contribution to process of ratifying the Law on Public Radio and Television. |

Since its establishment Glob International NGO has made great effort for introducing and promoting main conceptions and principles of Freedom of Expression, Freedom of Information, norms and standards being obeyed in some developed countries in this field and involving individuals and civil society institutions in drawing up draft laws. We are delighted that Glob International, making valuable contribution to the promotion of civil society, became the closest partner and assistant to media sector.

In 2007, the courts reviewed 33 civil cases concerned with journalists and media means, and of them two cases were in local area. 10 or 38.4 percent of the total cases, MPs and public officials were plaintiffs and 2 or 6 percent were singers. 1 case of 33 cases, reporter was a plaintiff, and other cases, ordinary citizens were plaintiffs.

Herders receive training

Inhabitants of Bayandalai and Gurvantes soums of Omnogobi Province intend to issue a newspaper “Local News”. The Press Institute organized a training. This newspaper was issued by the Institute of Nature in New Zealand in 2000-2006 and was distributed free of charge to 13 soums of Ovorkhangai, Omnogobi and Bayankhongor provinces.

Completed the project titled “Curbing Corruption through Better Access to Information”

Globe International, a Mongolian NGO has completed the four-month project “Curbing corruption through better access to information” under the 20,000 USD grant awarded by the Embassy of Great Britain and North Ireland in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The project ran from November 15, 2008 to March 15, 2009 and it was aimed at curbing corruption through better access to information held by public institutions and promoting transparent and accountable governance.

Nine MPs join a law initiating group for a draft Law on Freedom of Information

An Opinion Exchange Meeting was held on March 11, 2009 from 13.30 to 17.00 at Conference Hall “E” of the Government House to discuss about a draft Law on Freedom of Information. MPs including S. Oyun, Ts. Monkh-Orgil, Su. Batbold and E. Bat-Uul initiated and submitted this draft law to parliament May 2, 2007. The draft was newly developed on the basis of receiving a series of recommendations and suggestions by NGOs.
