The training for judges was conducted

Globe International NGO, UNESCO National Commision and National Legal Institute have organised one-day training for the Mongolian judges on freedom of expression. This is a part of a series of the lawyers’ trainings. In June 2012, the training for the defence lawyers was conducted.  

Globe International NGO has been cooperating with the International Senior Lawyers’ Project (ISLP) of the USA to  build the media legal resource team and train lawyers and judges on freedom of expression issues. Mr. Daniel Byron, an experienced media lawyer and professor will be working for a month as a pro-bono-services.

The training for judges was conducted on September 25, 2012 at the training room of National Legal Institute and involved 25 judges from eight District Courts, five local trainers and USA lawyer Mr. Daniel Byron. He has given lecture on USA libel law, international treaties and experiences of European Humah Rights Commission.

Mr. G.Jargalsaikhan, General Secretary of the UNESCO National Commission of Mongolia gave an opening speech.

Than the following local trainers made presentations:

2. B.Batzorig (IAAC): Public’s legitimate right  to know and government transparency
3. Protection of confidential sources and investigative reporting, R.Oyuntsetseg (Executive director of Journalist College, Ph.D )
4. D.Munkhburen, GI lawyer: Impact of media ownership and concentration on the independence of media,
5. Ch.Sosormaa, Adviser to the President: Draft law of Media Freedom ( President’s version)

Goal of the project was to contribute to the dispensation of justice and democratization in Mongolia by building up skills of the lawyers on freedom of expression issues
