Globe International (GI), the IFEX member is implementing skills exchange project “Skills exchange on campaigning and experience-sharing” aimed at exchanging campaigning skills and learning each other’s experiences of the two IFEX members to be partnered with Public Association “Journalists” (PAJ), Kyrgyz Republic, the IFEX member.
PAJ will be represented by Marat Tokoev, director and Mery Bekesheva, coordinator of PAJ. The PAJ representatives are coming to Mongolia on 12 September and staying for three days and training will be organized during PAJ stay in Ulaanbaatar. GI, the host organization will organize three events: one-day training for the GI staff and other Mongolian media NGOs on building up solidarity among journalists through campaigning and problem-solving during the conflict situation; meeting with the Mongolian journalists to talk about Kyrgyz media and journalists; and half-day experience sharing meeting for the PAJ representatives.
Globe International and Public Association “Journalists” have a bilateral agreement and we have developed the proposed plan jointly. A both organizations has its successes and failures in campaigning and each other’s failures /lessons learnt will be interesting to know in order to avoid the similar mistakes in the further campaigning.
PAJ will share their experiences on campaigning on solidarity of the journalists and problem-solving during the conflict situation. Globe International will bring its experiences of campaigning on the UN UPR and the UN HR Committee session on the ICCPR and online monitoring system.
As result of the project, two IFEX members will sign a Memorandum on Cooperation and will develop the proposal for the joint campaigning.
Globe International has two reasons to invite PAJ to exchange skills:
- Globe International has its experiences running campaigns, but we lack experiences in teaching journalists in the solidarity issues. Mongolian journalists lack the solidarity to fight for their common interests. Mongolian media publish or broadcast the negative materials or criticize the journalists who are facing criminal charges or support those politicians who are fighting with the particular media or journalists. The issues of solidarity of the journalists are not only Globe International’s matter. Skills for the building up the solidarity among journalists are also need for other media NGOs, so we are keen to invite the National press club, Confederation of Mongolian journalists, Press Institute and Media for Development to the training.
- Globe International lacks an experience in protecting and training the journalists on their safety during conflicts. GI was following the demonstrations and the riot on July 1, 2008. We have registered the injured journalists and later, we raised the funds for the most seriously injured photo reporter. PAJ’s experiences gained during the color revolution would be good to learn.
Public Association of Journalists has two reasons to learn GI experiences:
- The organization lacks knowledge and skills on use of the UN human rights mechanisms to advocate the freedom of expression, so GI experiences on the UN UPR and HRC session on the ICCPR would be a good example to learn.
- PAJ needs to learn the new online monitoring system launched by GI in order to extend their monitoring and make it efficient through learning how to save money.
