A Press Freedom Award has been bestowed on some journalists and media staffs who made valuable contribution to operatively report on an incident of July 1, 2008, which was a test of Mongolia’s democracy and freedom of expression. Those award winners have demonstrated a professional courage to deliver the truth to the public.
The first winners of Press Freedom Award include Unuudur (Today) newspaper photo-journalist B.Byamba-Ochir who was seriously injured during the post-election riots on July 1 in front of MPRP Headquarter while performing his reporting duty; Photo-journalist of the Mongoliin Medee (Mongolian News) newspaper N. Ariunaa; cameraman of the TV-8 Television N. Batbayar; reporter at the MM Agency of the Mongolian National Public Broadcasting Television Kh.Erdenebulgan; cameraman of the http://www.gogo.mn/ web page T. Ankhtamir; cameramen of Eagle Television D. Uuganbaatar and L. Ulziibayar; reporter at the MM Agency of the Mongolian National Public Broadcasting Television B. Baasanbyamba who reported first about human lives loss during the public disturbance.
The Globe International NGO has made a decision to grant the Press Freedom Award every year.
