The Glob International NGO has organized a measure “The 1st of July: Test of Press Freedom” to develop a free discussion which was attended by journalists, reporters, leadership of media means organizations and civil society representatives.
An incident of July 1, 2008 was the first ever extraordinary event shocking the public in the history of Mongolia since choosing the democratic system with an appearance of confrontation situation in the society.
At President’s decree on declaration of the state of emergency, operation of all televisions except MNPTB was stopped for four days, and a state censorship was restored in Mongolian National Public Radio and Television limiting groundless the freedom of expression of the people and rights and freedom of having access of real information. This shows that press freedom in Mongolia has been comparatively sensitive.
During the event, Head of the Globe International NGO Kh. Naranjargal delivered a report entitled “The 1st of July: Test of Press Freedom” and researcher of IRIM Research Center G. Tsogtbaatar has introduced a report on the theme of “The 1st of July. Media Monitoring”. Moreover, a television program “The 1st of July-Unforgotten Day”, prepared from an archive of the Eagle Television, was presented to the participants. In addition, a photo exhibition was mounted at the event.
