On October 23rd a consultation meeting was held to present the results of the study “Legal and self regulation of Social Media”. Mr. Galarid, Head of the Board of Globe International Center (GIC) and Mr. Zolzaya, Head of the Radio Television and Social Media Network Department opened the meeting, in which representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, academics and students had the opportunity of discussing the principal issues of social media in Mongolia.
The study is comprised of two sections, one was developed by L.Galbaatar, a lawyer specialized in social media content, who is also a member of Mongolian Bar Association; the second was authored by Kh.Naranjargal, and Ts.Munkhjin, Head and Manager of GIC respectively. The study focuses on four media organizations self-regulation schemes from Asia, American and Europe. It also touches on the international standards and laws that have been implemented in Germany, Italy, Australia and South Korea. Case studies include The Associated Press, BBC, The New York Times, Asahi Shimbun and Media council’s experience of Belgium, German, Netherlands and Finland.
