Following the successful launch of the first ever European Union Film Festival in Mongolia last year, it was decided to organize the 2nd EU Film Festival in Ulaanbaatar from November 23-27, 2011. The EU Film Festival is organized by the Delegation of the European Union for Mongolia in partnership with the German Goethe-Institute, Liaison Office Mongolia and the Alliance Francaise de Mongolie. Local partners are the Black Box Theatre, Arts Council of Mongolia and Globe International.
The EU MS have participated in the organisation of this film festival with one recent, popular and successful film, including thrillers, comedies and drama. Such a wide and diverse selection will enable the Mongolian general public to get a taste of what European movie fans are enjoying in Europe.
This year, 10 EU member states are involved in the festival: Poland, which currently holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Germany, France, Czech Republic, the UK, Bulgaria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain and Luxemburg. All movies are shown in their original language with Mongolian subtitles.
The Opening Night of the event will start on Wednesday, November 23, at 6 pm at the Black Box Theatre, and will be officially opened by EU Ambassador to Mongolia Markus Ederer along with Ambassadors from many EU Member States in Ulaanbaatar as well as EU Ambassadors accredited to Mongolia and residing in Beijing, China. The Ambassadors are holding meetings in UB with the Mongolian authorities from November 23-24. This year is also a very special year for the EU as we are also celebrating 20 years of EU diplomatic presence in Mongolia.
The opening movie of the Festival will be the movie “Kolya” from the Czech Republic, which is currently holding EU local Presidency in Mongolia.
Our motto in the EU is “United in Diversity” and this festival is a wonderful example of hard work and cooperation among our Member States, providing a unique opportunity for a Mongolian audience to experience the most recent, most successful and most exciting films the European Union has to offer. We hope that it will also give the audience an opportunity to peer in to the lives of Europeans and their diverse cultures.
The Film Festival in UB will take place from 23-27 November. There will be no tickets on sale as all screenings are free!
