60th Anniversary of Mongolian Journalists’ Organization was celebrated

60th Anniversary of the establishment of Mongolian Journalists’ Organization was celebrated on 6th of March, 2011. 98 years ago, on this day first issue of Mongolia’s first ever weekly press titled "Shine Toli Khemeekh Bichig" (New Mirror Magazines) was published, as such 6th of March is celebrated as a day of Mongolian press.

According to the resolution 2/3 issued on 16th of January, 2011 by the Political Bureau of Mongolian People’s Revolutionary Party’s Central Committee, Union  of Mongolian Journalists was established by the decision to “Create a subdivision of journalists” under the Central Committee of Mongolian Workers’ Union.

The democratic change that brought political, economic, social reform and the adoption of market based economy in the beginning of 1990s also envisioned the creation of free and independent press in Mongolia. At that time a group of journalists laid a foundation of the Confederation of Mongolian Free and Democratic Journalists.

11 years later in 2002, Union of Mongolian Journalists together with the Confederation of Mongolian Free and Democratic Journalists organized a joint conference and established the Confederation of Mongolian Journalists.

Currently, Confederation of Mongolian Journalists has branches in the city and 21 aimags as well as membership of around 3000 journalists.
