Right of the national minority to access, produce and exchange information in their native language

UNESCO, Beijing office and Globe International, a Mongolian NGO is organizing a consultative meeting titled Right of the national minorities to access, produce and exchange information on September 30, 2009 at Continental Hotel.

An estimated 50 people representing the government, human rights NGOs, Bayan-Olgii administration and Kazakh community will attend the meeting and discuss the present situation and challenges in Bayan-Olgii media, and how to improve the situation.

UNESCO’s initiative to improve Access to Information among Rural Populations, especially Ethnic/Linguistic Minorities is one of the activities of UNITED NATIONS TRUST FUND FOR HUMAN SECURITY project “COMPREHENSIVE COMMUNITY SERVICES TO IMPROVE HUMAN SECURITY FOR THE RURAL DISADVANTAGED POPULATIONS IN MONGOLIA”.

Such key players in the broadcast sector as MNB, ICTPA, and CRC will take the presentations on the legal environment and technical possibilities to extend the broadcast service to the Kazakhs.

Dana Ziyasheva, UNESCO Advisor of Information and communication and Colin Knowles, an expert from ABC will talk about the preliminary options for broadcasting in Bayan- Olgii.
