Zavkhan newspaper appeals the Special Court

The “Zavkhan” newspaper has appealed the Special Court disagreeing with a judgment of the Appellate Courts which approved a decision by the courts of first instance.

A total of eight officials including Yaruu Soum Governor O. Enkhbat, Head of the Citizens Representative Meeting of the Soum Ts. Damdinsuren, Chairman of the Administration Office B. Tserennadmid, Deputy Governor R. Baatarsuren, Training Manager of the secondary school Ya. Tserennadmid, accountant U. Tserenlkham and Head of the kindergarten B. Narantuya issued a claim to the court of first instance in the Zavkhan Province. They considered that they were defamed. One of these officials rejected from its claim. The Court of Zavkhan Province established and inspected a civil case concerned with seven people.

At the 255th judgement of the Court of Zavkhan Province on May 29, 2009, a decision was made to take MNT 9 million from the defendant ‘Zavkhan’ newspaper with the aim of giving MNT 2 million each to claimants of Yaruu Soum Governor O. Enkhbat and Deputy Governor R.Baatarsuren and MNT 1 million each to other claimants. The Zavkhan newspaper has refused this judgement and appealed to the Appelatte Courts. However, the Appealtte Court supported a decision of the court of first instance. Therefore, the Zavkhan newspaper now appealed to the Special Court.
