A working group has been set up in charge of providing preparation work for making a draft Law on Freedom of Information be discussed in a plenary meeting of the State Great Khural, and drawing up a draft proposal and conclusion. Head of the Glob International NGO Kh. Naranjargal will work in a working group on professional methodological assistanceв

A working group headed by Su. Batbold MP includes Deputy Parliamentary Speaker N. Enkhbold, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy Z. Enkhbold, MPs D.Odbayar, Ts. Munkk-Orgil and Kh. Temuujin.

The draft Law on Freedom of Information was initiated and submitted to Parliament on May 2, 2007 by MPs, S.Oyun, Ts.Munkh-Orgil, Su.Batbold and E.Bat-Uul. On the basis of series of suggestions and recommendations by NGOs, the first reading of newly developed draft law was expected to be made at meeting of parliament on April 30, 2009. But, the reading was postponed and a decision was made to set up a joint working group of parliamentary standing committees on justice and state structure.

With the aim of regulating and legalizing the people’s right of having freedom of expression, Glob International NGO in association with 10 NGOs had set up a coalition and organized an Opinion Exchange Meeting on March 11, 2009 in the Government House.

During the meeting on March 11 it has scheduled to discuss a new draft Law on Freedom of Information with MPs and planned to set up a Parliament Group to provide the inside lobbying.

As results of this activity, we have established the Parliament Group to provide the inside lobbying and now the number of the law initiators reached to 13 MPs. The project activities involved 34% of the Parliamentarians.
