1) On April 30, 2009, we are organizing an event “We want to tell the Truth!”
The journalism students will call the media leaders and politicians to take the immediate actions towards making the editorial and political environments for independent journalism more favorable. The students and journalists will speak out about their problems concerning censorship, editorial independence and development of self-regulation
Media practitioners and their leaders, politicians, government and NGO representatives, and journalism students and their teachers will be invited to the event.
Globe International has been working on promotion of freedoms of expression, information and since its establishment in 1999.
Mongolian independent media is still fragile and it is not able to play a role of 4th estate. Journalists are not isolated in the society and they should be in cooperation with the public. Unfortunately, Mongolian public is not well informed on what is happening in the media and with media freedom as it is their right.
World Press Freedom Day is the greatest opportunity for raising awareness and focus on the media problems. Informed citizenship that is aware of the need for media freedom is the best protection for media freedom.
Mongolian media community started marking WPF Day every year on 3d May since 1991 by an initiative of Mongolian Free and Democratic Journalists' Association.
We hope, the Mongolian society will be better informed in the real situation of media freedom and actions, which should be taken towards its further improvement.
