Globe International is now only member organization of the Global Forum for Media Development.
Some 100 media assistance organisations from 70 countries have joined the Global Forum for Media Development. The GFMD was launched as a membership network at its World Conference in Athens in December. Media development groups agreed to come together in one membership network to make the case for media development as a primary pillar for advancing social, economic, and political development.
“Bringing together the media development practitioners in one membership network is an important achievement,” said GFMD Director Bettina Peters. “We have shown that media development is a sector in its own right, one that should not be disregarded or subsumed under other headings. We are now a real community of media assistance practitioners, who actively joined together around common goals.”
As a membership network the GFMD can interact with donors and policy makers on behalf of its members. It is more than a lose network with members making a financial contribution to the organisation. The membership fee is scaled according to the size and turnover of the organisation.
