Media advice booklet published
2006/11/28
The Open Society Forum (OSF) was set up in 2003 by the Mongolia Open Society Institute to encourage active participation in civil society. In June 2004, it became an NGO, also involved in policy research and analysis.
On October 5, OSF announced that it had translated into Mongolian various international standards for broadcasting, internet and media organisations, and had sent copies of its booklet entitled Quality Management Structure to a number of media organisations.
Confederation of Mongolian Journalists vice president S. Batbaatar said, “I had not before seen the standards to be followed to resolve problems facing journalists and media organisations. The booklet includes advice about reaching advertisers, the public, administrations, information non-dependence, and transparency.”
He added, “The book will always be on my office desk.”
The booklet advises that the three basic values are to search for the truth, respect the individual and make independent decisions.
To help the state broadcaster (now called National Public Radio and Television) become an independent public broadcaster, lawyer Antonio Riva has been brought to Mongolia.
