Mr. G. Badamsambuu on censorship
G.Badamsambuu, Mongolian National Broadcasting (MNB)

Censorship is the distortion of truth and objective information to make it consistent with somebody’s opinions and interests. The Government and employers censor the activities of journalists. The journalists also have self-censorship and distort the objectivity and information. It happens when the journalists are abused by somebody, lack the professional skills, include their personal opinions, or lack information on the issues they report. The journalist’s duty is to be objective, balanced and fair. The most dangerous censorship is when journalists use their own views and opinions of events. On the other hand, censorship still exists as the authorities use their power to influence the objectivity and truth, and interfere with the professional rights of journalists. There is also censorship on the news and materials that come from media leaders and political and business groups that influence media outlets. For example, the yellow newspaper cannot publish any materials that affect their owners and certain groups. That means the newspaper and its journalists are censored by its owner and some groups. With regards to the MNB, it is censored by groups and individuals, whose interests and opinions are more important than journalists’ professional interests. Even though the MNB is in transition to public service, the governing board is divided into groups that serve political interests. It influences the General Director. The General Director’s political affiliation and his opinion are reflected through the structure.
