A video training, “In case your professional rights are violated…” dedicated to local media workers, was held on October 13-14, 2010 in the distance training center at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST).

Organized by Globe International NGO, the training was attended by a total of 86 journalists and media equipment operators from Zavkhan, Dundgobi, Ovorkhangai, Khentii, Darkhan-Uul, Orkhon, Dornogobi, Gobi-Altai, Dornod, Sukhbaatar, Tov and Bayankhongor provinces.

Globe International is starting two-month project to look at the political will of the MPs to combat corruption through using anti-corruption legislative scorecard as monitoring tool. The proposed project is closely linked to the Asia Foundation’s “Integrity Star” program with purpose to increase parliament transparency on voting, especially on laws directly or indirectly related to the anti-corruption, responsibility mechanism, justice and accountability.

Proposal to the draft law of Mongolia on freedom of media

Here is a proposal worked out by Toby Mendel, an international expert regarding a draft amendment to the law on press freedom which is being drawing up by a joint working group of the Presidential Office of Mongolia and the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs. Toby Mendel mentioned that any law on protection of press freedom must contain some elements, and then said that almost all or most of the elements are not reflected in the draft of new wording.

On 27 August 2010 host computer of the daily newspaper “Niigmiin toli” (Public`s mirror) based in Ulaanbaatar, capital city of Mongolia, has been confiscated by the officers of General Authority for Implementing Court Decisions (GAFICD). Journalists of the newspaper were offering other computer instead of confiscated computer which wasn’t allowed to be sealed, but they didn`t consent. Above computer contains all of information of the newspaper activities, including many confidential sources. Journalists of the newspaper are considering current case as a violation of their rights.

Main impact of the proposed project is that local people will be able to access the local government information.
