Globe International Center said the new measures imposed by Mongolia to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic are restrictive and could be used to undermine free speech in the country. It added that citizens who criticize public officials are being penalized under the guise of combating disinformation in the time of pandemic.

We are pleased to present to you our recurrent report on the state of media freedom in Mongolia to be prepared on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD), which is celebrated annually on May 3. UNESCO is launching a global campaign for the 27th annual WPFD under the theme "Journalism without Fear or Favour.” This year's WPFD coincides with the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. 

Globe International center organized Youth and Women journalists online conference held on 25-29 May 2020. The conference-training organized as an online marathon between young and women journalists to educate the young and women journalists on the principles of objective and ethical election reporting and election guidelines.

GIC organized a Facebook live event on May 1st 2020 for World Press Freedom Day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This day seeks to raise awareness about Press Freedom and commemorate the right of freedom of expression.

Transparency International and ARTICLE 19 today called on the Mongolian government to take urgent legislative action to address an increasingly dangerous environment for independent media in the country.  

Globe International Center deeply condemns a physical harassment committed by a certain police officer against N.Unurtsetseg, a female journalist of zarig.mn news site. This incident has been occurred while the journalist was under an investigation by the police based on a complaint lodged by a high-profile public official.

On October 23rd a consultation meeting was held to present the results of the study “Legal and self regulation of Social Media”. 

The Globe International Center (GIC) held a press conference on November 1st, 2019 to commemorate  the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. This day spotlights the fundamental right to freedom of expression and its corollaries such as access to information, freedom of the press, and journalist safety.
