THE MEETING OF NATIONAL NETWORK OF MEDIA LAWYERS HAS ORGANIZED

The regular meeting of the National Network of Media Lawyers, which was established on a voluntary basis to promote and protect the right to freedom of expression and the right to information, was held on March 5, 2024 at the Globe International Center, a member organization of the network. Representatives of member organizations such as the National Human Rights Commission, the Mongolian Lawyers' Association, Amnesty International-Mongolia, Press Institute of Mongolia, and The Globe International Center participated in the meeting.


At the meeting, there was discussed about a draft of the Call to political parties, alliances, and independent candidates competing in the 2024 parliamentary elections to include content aimed at ensuring citizens' right to freedom of expression and the right to know to their election program.


In the document there planned to include issues such as: In order to increase the transparency of information, the list of state and official secrets should only be established by law, The number of restricted and closed information should be reduced, The number of open information should be increased, The Draft law on the protection of whistleblowers should be developed and approved in accordance with international agreements and human rights principles, and The secret sources of journalists should be legally recognized, Repeal Article 13.14, Article 19.11, and Article 21.9, Part 1 of the Criminal Code, Prohibit restricting the content and expression of opinions in the online environment without judicial control or involvement, the Law on Procedures for Demonstrations and Gatherings and other relevant laws must be done in compliance with obligations of Mongolia under human rights law.
