"IMPLEMENTATION OF FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND THE RIGHT TO KNOW-2023"

MULTILATERAL DISCUSSION

The Globe International Center, in cooperation with the Open Society Forum, with the support of IFEX, organized a multi-stakeholder discussion on "Freedom of Expression and Implementation of the Right to Know-2023" on December 20, 2023. 

The goal of the discussion were to listen to the voices of different stakeholders regarding the implementation of freedom of expression and the right to know in the year 2023, the regulation and changes of the legal framework, its consequences and influence, and discuss the difficulties and pressing issues, and how to solve the problem in the future.

The event started with presentation a report on "GIC review on the current exercise of freedom of expression and the right to know” by Mr. L. Galbaatar, a lawyer and researcher of the Globe International Center. 

A two-part thematic discussion was held, in which representatives of public and civil society organizations and journalists expressed their opinions and difficulties, obstacles and issues facing in the process.

In the first part of the thematic discussion, the representatives of Communication Regulatory Committee, Zuuny Medee newspaper, Open Society Forum, and Mongolian Media Council participated, while in the second part, the representatives of The Independent Authority Against Corruption, National Human Rights Commission, Intellectual Innovation NGO, and representatives of Open Society Forum expressed their positions and exchanged opinions.

More than 50 participants representing the government, civil society, media and academic and research organization participated in the discussion. Discussion notes are planned to be delivered to participants, public and President of Mongolia, Members of Parliaments and Prime Minister in the beginning of 2024 through the "Important Topics" publication prepared by the Open Society Forum and websites or organizers and social networks.
